California Governor Signs Law to Protect Against Genetic Discrimination

This should add a layer of protection to those who wish to find out more about the information contained in their bodies -- particularly health related information. In California, it will be illegal for insurance companies and employers to use such information in a discriminatory manner. Actually the federal Genetic Information and Nondiscrimination Act GINA) legislation already covers the areas of insurance and employment. This new California law will expand that civil right into areas such housing, education, mortgage lending and elections. Hopefully, other states will follow California's lead.
